Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services: programs and services for newcomers to Canada

Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services (PICS) is a charitable non-profit community- based agency which has been assisting newcomers in the settlement and integration process in Canada for almost 40 years.

PICS is a service-focused multicultural and multiracial organization that works with all immigrant communities in more than 40 languages in six different locations across the GTA: Etobicoke, South Toronto, Scarborough and Mississauga.

At each of its service delivery sites are settlement workers who provide valuable information to newcomers about social services programs, housing, healthcare, education, and immigration and settlement issues normally faced by newcomers. Immigrants can learn English by attending classes as well as improve their professional language skills that prepares them for employment by attending the Transition to Employment Assistance Program.

PICS runs several support groups and newcomer clubs for various ethnic groups of immigrants and also supports immigrants receiving Ontario Works benefits to set employment goals and plan steps to find and secure employment.

Its volunteer program aims to engage all those people who wish to donate their valuable time and energy to an organization that helps newcomers adapt to a new life in Canada.

PICS is supported by the Government of Canada, Ontario, the City of Toronto and by donors and friends. More info at www.polycultural.org.
