How to rent a home if you have a large family

If you have a large family, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) offers the following information to help you find and rent a home or apartment:

Most apartments in Canada are designed for average- size Canadian families, with one or two bedrooms. Some landlords limit the number of people who can live in an apartment.

If you have a large family, houses for rent can be harder to find and more expensive.

• Have two or more children sleep in the same room. Bunk beds can save space.

• If your family includes older parents or grandparents, they can find it difficult to meet new people, so look for a community centre or other facility that offers language classes, exercise programs, etc.

• For more information visit www.cmhc.ca/newcomers, call 1-613-748-2799 or e-mail media@cmhc-schl.gc.ca.
