Billed as a rock star on the international comedy circuit, the biggest comedian from Quebec on the English comedy scene tours the world, performing in a staggering 150 shows a year.
Hollywood Reporter has named Sugar Sammy one of the top ten rising comedy talents in the world. Born Samir Bhullar, he is remarkable in that he is fluent in four languages, dancing between puns in English, French, Hindi and Punjabi, sometimes all in one show. It works, because he truly coexists in both cultures.
Asked if he really sees everything as funny, he says there is humour in every situation, one just has to know what will make others laugh. “It is the only way to live, to laugh at ourselves and at stuff that happens around us. Not take everything too seriously!”
He gives his time and lends his name to projects that raise funds for the needy. One example being Smile Project Haiti, a fundraiser that seeks to restore hope in Haiti through various projects. He has also travelled to Haiti to participate in shows to raise money to renovate an orphanage.
Sugar Sammy has been recognized for his commitment and contribution to making Quebec a more pluralistic and inclusive society, and as an international ambassador for Canada.
