Canada Research Chair in Musculoskeletal Trauma – the only chair of its kind in Canada – Dr Mohit Bhandari is recognized internationally for his research.
The many prestigious awards he has received include the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Medal in Research and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Mentor of the year Award. Considered the foremost authority in the translation of orthopaedic research to clinical practice, Dr Bhandari received the Order of Ontario and McMaster University’s Distinguished Alumni Award. He is ranked as one of the top ten most-cited surgeons in orthopaedics.
Born in Amritsar, he came to Canada at the age of one in 1969.
“I am grateful for the sacrifices our parents made. I feel blessed that I am in a position to do something for the people of the country of my birth and of the country we came to.”
He sees the challenges foreign-trained physicians face as really tough. “We need a better understanding of the credentialling process. But there’s also the fact that standards are so varied across the world.”
