Dr Abhijit Guha, at the cutting edge of cancer research in Canada

Dr Abhijit Guha is co-director, Arthur and Sonia Labatt brain Tumour Centre, Hospital for Sick Children. He is the winner of the gold medal in surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Canada. The president of the Society of Neuro-Oncology is also the winner of the Farber Award in Neuro-Oncology and the Clinical Scientist Award, to mention just a few.

Dr Guha’s research focuses on brain tumours and peripheral nerve tumours and is changing the way malignant brain tumours are treated.
He is passionate about taking modern medicine to those who have limited access to it and is involved in the SKK Foundation that his father set up in Krishnanagar in India.

The Foundation runs a primary school, a primary clinic and a work-cum-education centre to teach women a trade. In partnership with three other doctors, he set up the National Neuro Science Centre in Kolkata to provide neuro care in one of the poorest areas of the city.
