Srinivas Krishna: Artist, filmmaker finds his niche in Canada
Srinivas Krishna started his own theatre group when he was barely 16. He has lived life centre stage ever since, and has made feature films, television shows, theatre and museum installations. He has been cited in the Critical Guide to Contemporary Directors as one of the most talented and provocative filmmakers working in North America.
He established his own production company, Divani Films, and has produced films that have premiered in the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival.
He has taught film at New York University and is invited to speak at colleges and universities on films as well as cultural issues.
Having come to Canada as a very young child with this parents in the 70s, cultural issues are something he is very familiar with.
“There were so few of us, we were pioneers of a kind. I’ve seen the numbers grow and now it’s just exceptional. However, while we need to be rooted in our culture, we also need to interact. We need to make the world our home, not just a small corner of it.”
